Rishabh Pant Ruled Out of Oval Test; Jagadeesan Named as Replacement

India wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant, who sustained a right foot fracture during the fourth test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, has been ruled out for the fifth and final test of the series.

The BCCI has announced that Narayan Jagadeesan will replace Pant in the fifth Test, which begins on July 31. As per the scans, Pant was advised to rest for six weeks of rest. However, he continued to bat in the first innings, where he went on to complete his fifty.

Jagadeesan, who earned his maiden test call-up up has received his visa early on Sunday morning and will be joining the squad in London. He will be the backup for Dhruv Jurel, who kept wicket for both the third and fourth tests as a substitute.

Jagadeesan has been on the fringes of the India A set up for the while having topped the run chart for Tamil Nadu two seasons in the Rani Trophy.

Despite being not part of the India A for the tour of England, he’s has been considered by the BCCI‘s centre of Excellence over the past 12 months.

Making his first class debut in 2016, he averages over 47.50 with scoring 3373 runs in 79 innings, with ten hundreds and 14 half centuries with a best of 321 against Chandigarh in Janury 2024.

He recently played for Chepauk Super Gillies in TNPL 2025 and will be Jagadeesan’s second tour of the UK after having earlier led a Tamil Nadu Colts team least year.

India drawed the fourth test after heroics from KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the second innings of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

England leads the series 2-1 by the end of fourth test and the final test will be played between July 31 and August 04 at The Kennington Oval.
