Nasser Hussain didn’t spare England captain Ben Stokes for his silly tactics to deny well-deserving hundreds to Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja. The two batters were unstoppable and frustrated the hosts to earn a draw for their team.
With Jadeja and Sundar nearing their centuries, Stokes walked up to the two batters and offered to end the proceedings early.
However, Jadeja and Sundar didn’t show interest as their respective tons were around the corner, which angered Stokes. He gave the ball to Harry Brook, and Jadeja took no time to complete his hundred, his fifth in Test career, while Sundar reached his maiden hundred after a couple of overs.
Speaking to Sky Cricket, Hussain said that Jadeja and Sundar were within their rights to go for personal glory.
“There was no problem, but it seems England were having issues. Their bowlers were tired and they wanted to leave the field. Bowling Harry Brook was a bit silly. India played well, and they deserved a draw. The two batters deserve to be there at the end,” he said.
Hussain hailed the Indian team their second innings performance after being reduced to 0/2 on Day 4 in the first over.
Shubman Gill and KL Rahul then stitched a partnership of 188 runs before the two all-rounders sealed a draw, setting up for another cracker of a game at the Oval.
“Credit goes to India. It is England’s second-ever draw under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. England couldn’t go past the two left-handers,” he added.
