The ongoing fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford marks a crucial moment in the 2025–27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. With the final day underway, the result of this Test can heavily impact the WTC points table.

As things stand, India is placed fourth on the WTC points table. Out of their three matches so far, they have managed one win and two losses, giving them a point percentage of 33.33.

Australia leads the table with three wins in three games, while Sri Lanka sits in second place, having won one of their two games. England is currently third, with two victories from three matches and a point percentage of 61.11.

If England manages to secure victory on Day 5, which is highly unlikely, they will rise to the second spot in the WTC standings. A win will give them 3 wins from 4 games, boosting their point percentage to 70.83 – a major leap that strengthens their position in the championship race.

Despite England’s early dominance, India mounted a strong fightback led by KL Rahul and Shubman Gill. If the match ends in a draw, which will most likely happen, it will feel like a win for India. In this case, India will remain at fourth spot with one win and one draw from four matches, maintaining their point percentage at 33.33.

On the other hand, England will suffer – their point percentage will dip from 61.11 to 54.17, costing them a potential move up the table.

Though very much unlikely, if India manages to pull off a win on the final day, it would dramatically alter the WTC table. India would leap to third place with a 50% point percentage, while England would slip to fourth with 45.83%.
