The fourth Test match between India and England at Manchester proved to be a forgettable outing for star pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

For the first time in his seven-year-long Test career, Bumrah conceded more than 100 runs in a single innings. England posted a massive 669-run total in their first innings, with Bumrah conceding 112 runs in his 33 overs and managing to take just two wickets.

A Historic Low for Bumrah

This marked the first instance where Bumrah has given away over 100 runs in a Test innings. His previous most expensive spell came against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2024, where he had conceded 99 runs but also picked up 4 wickets.

In Manchester, however, he struggled for breakthroughs despite maintaining effort throughout his long spell.

Jasprit Bumrah wasn’t the only bowler to endure a tough day on the field. In fact, four Indian bowlers, including him, gave away over 100 runs in England’s record-breaking innings.

Bumrah conceded 112, Siraj gave away 140, Ravindra Jadeja was hit for 143, and Washington Sundar leaked 107 runs. This was only the 25th occasion in Test cricket history when four Indian bowlers have conceded 100+ runs in the same innings.

Despite the recent setback, Bumrah has been India’s most consistent and successful bowler in the ongoing series. Skipping only the second Test in Birmingham, Bumrah has bowled a whopping 119.4 overs across 5 innings—averaging nearly 24 overs per innings.

With 14 wickets to his name, he remains India’s leading wicket-taker in the series, underlining both his importance and his workload.

India suffered a big blow just before Lunch on Day 5 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford as captain Shubman Gill, having just completed a fine century, was dismissed by Jofra Archer. His departure gave England a much-needed breakthrough at a crucial moment.

At the end of 88 overs, India stood at 222 for 4, still 89 runs behind England’s first innings total.
