In a recent update, India’s wk-batter Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury in his right foot during day 01 of the fourth test, has been advised to rest for six weeks because of a toe fracture.

In the 68th over of the innings, Pant was batting on 37 off 48 deliveries when he attempted a reverse sweep in a delivery from Chris Woakes, but missed, eventually taking a hit on his right boot.

The bat hit the boot after taking an inside edge and, anyhow, survived the lbw appeal and subsequent DRS. He was being monitored by support staff ahead of the Day 02 game.

BCCI has provided an update on Pant’s injury by the end of day 01 of the game, his injury has been confirmed with a fracture in his toe.

“The scan report showed a fracture and he is ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is trying to see if he can come out to bat again by taking a pain killer. He still needs support to walk though and chances of his batting looks very bleak,” said a source from BCCI.

With one man short in the playing 11, the Indian team managemed has asked the medical team to check if Pant can bat after taking a pain killer if the need arises.

Meanwhile, the National selection committee is likely to add Ishan Kishan ahead of the fifth test as Pant will not play in the fifth test.

India is already hit with back to back injury concerns with all-rounder Nitish Reddy ruled out due to knee injury, while Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh missed the fourth test due to groin and thumb injury respectively.

Hitting the ground in discomfort, some swelling and bleeding on his right foot, Pant was unable to stand on his feet. The medical cart came in to take India’s star wicket-keeper batter away.

Former cricketers Ricky Ponting and Michael Atherton felt the blow made a considerable damage to the foot.

Pant’s injury made him retire hurt and Jadeja replacing him at the crease. With the dismissal of Sai Sudharsan, Shardul Thakur joined the all-rounder taking India to 264 runs at stumps.
