Main point:

Karun Nair has been dropped from the team in India vs England fourth Test. Despite the support of Shubman Gill, he did not find a place in the playing XI. This decision was taken due to continuous poor form. Sai Sudarshan has been included in the team in his place.

Delhi: In the fourth match of the four matches being played in Manchester, England have decided to bowl by winning the toss against India. All -rounder Anshul Kamboj has got a chance to debut from India. Also, star batsman Karun Nair has been dropped from this match.

Shubman praised Karun

Indian captain Shubman Gill supported Karun in the press conference before the match. He said, “We have talked to Karun. We feel that he is batting well. In the first match he does not play on his favorite position. It is not always easy for a player to return. Sometimes you just want a fifty, which makes the rhythm back. Unfortunately this has not happened to him yet.”

After this statement of Shubman, everyone believed that Karun will be given a chance in the fourth Test as well. But the team took a shocking decision and dropped them out. Sai Sudarshan has been included in the playing XI in place of Karun.

Karun Nair has been seen battling to score runs in all three Tests played so far. He has scored only 131 runs in three matches and has an average of 21.83.

Karun asked for ‘One More Chance’

In the year 2016, Karun Nair created history by scoring an unbeaten 303 runs in Test cricket. He became only the second batsman to score a triple century for India. But after this, he got to play only three more Tests and he got out of the team.

In the year 2022, the situation had become so bad that he was also dropped from the Ranji team of Karnataka. Karun himself called it the most difficult period of his career.

On 10 December 2022, Karun Nair wrote on Twitter (now x) – “Dear Cricket, Give Me One More Chance” means “Dear cricket, give me another chance”.

Nair then performed brilliantly for England in 2023 and 2024 in county cricket. He then scored 863 runs in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy season for Vidarbha, with his average of 53.93 and played a key role in getting the team the title.

Earlier in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 5 centuries in just 8 innings and scored at an incredible average of 389.50.

Due to this brilliant performance, at the age of 33, Karun Nair got the opportunity that he was waiting for. After 2017, he made it to the playing XI in the first Test played against England in Handingley, Leeds and returned to Test cricket after 8 years.

However, he has been excluded from the playing XI after he failed continuously on England tour. Now the question comes whether the doors of the Indian team have been closed for Nair or will they be given another chance?
