Andre Russell Bids Goodbye to International Cricket at Sabina Park

The all-rounder Andre Russell has bid farewell to international cricket after the second T20I in Australia tour of West Indies 2025 at Sabina Park.

The hosts secured a massive eight-wicket victory after Josh Inglis and Cameron Green’s 131-run partnership.

Having confirmed he will be playing only the first T20I of the five match series and wanting his play his farewell game in his hometown, Russell scored a vital 36 runs off 15 deliveries which included six maximums and two boundaries.

He was given a guard of honour by both Austraia and his West Indies teammates as he came onto the field. The supporters applauded the player where he acknowledged the love and received from the crowd.

With the all-rounder left a void in the playing 11, it will be crucial for West Indies board to find a replacement ahead of the World Cup 2026. Having made his T20I debut in 2010, he has played 86 T20Is, 56 ODIs and a single test match.

He was also part of T20 World Cup winning contingent in 2012 and 2016. He has been part of KKR in IPL for last several years and played a pivotal part in IPL winning season in 2014 and 2024.

Andre Russell took the time to thank the fans for their support and admitted it is the time to move on.

“I just want to say thanks, thanks to the people in the Sabina Park and to the WICB for the opportunity. Just happy to play in front of the home crowd, the result didn’t go our way, but I’m just happy to have played so many matches and wish the team the best going forward. Thanks for all the support, I really appreciate it the most,” said Russell.

“I remember the two World Cups we won, the flags going high, but at the end of the day – I think it was time to move ahead. We have a good bunch of guys (in the team), Shephard is throwing some punches, and there are the likes of Rutherford, Alzarri and Holder as well,” Russell further said.

“Amazing to finish my career at the Sabina Park, the result didn’t go our way, but that’s the game of cricket. You’ve supported us a lot and do keep supporting us going ahead,” Andre Russell concluded.
