Irfan kept the in-form Shubman Gill at the No.4 slot, followed by Rishabh Pant, playing as a specialist batter due to injury concerns.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has named three changes in India’s playing XI for the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The match will be played in Manchester on July 23.
The 40-year-old kept KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers. He gave the No.3 slot to Sai Sudharsan as Karun Nair hasn’t been among the runs in the three red-ball games so far.
“Karun Nair has played good innings but runs haven’t come. His highest score is 40. Although he hasn’t struggled, I believe Sai Sudharsan deserves another match. He is also a left-handed batter and England bowlers haven’t bowled well to lefties,” he said.
Irfan kept the in-form Shubman Gill at the No.4 slot, followed by Rishabh Pant, playing as a specialist batter due to injury concerns. Ravindra Jadeja was given the No.6 slot after Nitish Kumar Reddy was ruled out of the reminder of the series. Irfan brought in Dhruv Jurel as a wicket-keeper.
“Play Rishabh Pant as a batter as he is injured. But Dhruv Jurel will have to be careful as a wicket-keeper. He concedeing a lot of extra runs in the previous game and that made a big difference in the end,” he added.
Pathan kept Washington Sundar at No.8. He took four wickets in England’s second innings of the third Test.
Irfan Pathan named Prasidh Krishna as the third seamer, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj being the top two bowlers.
“Play Prasidh Krishna in place of injured Akash Deep. You need an experience bowler in a big game. Although Anshul Kamboj is a part of the team but Krishna should make the cut.”
Irfan Pathan’s playing XI for the 4th Test: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Kl Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Grishna.
