India could have easily won all the matches, but the players’ failure to get going under pressure cost the team.
Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar has reacted to Shubman Gill’s aggressive approach in the third Test against England at Lord’s. He also highlighted the role of his father, Lakhwinder Singh, in his career. He was Gill’s first coach and played an important role in his success as a cricketer.
Manjrekar believes that Lakhwinder’s guidance is one of the major reasons behind Gill’s remarkable journey in cricket. He has scored over 600 runs in three Tests against England, but his team is trailing 1-2.
India could have easily won all the matches, but the players’ failure to get going under pressure cost the team.
“Shubman Gill is not naturally aggressive. If he was, we would have seen it from the start of his career. Virat Kohli was animated and aggressive the moment he landed in international cricket. With Shubman Gill, I haven’t seen it before,” Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo.
Manjrekar mentioned that his father only knows whether Gill has the traits of Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni.
“There are a lot of good people around Shubman Gill. His father knows him better than anyone else. He would only know whether his son is like Virat Kohli or MS Dhoni. I think he is somewhere in between and he will have to find his way, which will help him in captaincy and batting,” he added.
