New Delhi. In the 40th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Delhi Capitals (Delhi Capitals- DC) have registered their fourth win by defeating Gujarat Titans (Gujarat Titans.- GT) by 4 runs. This is GT’s 5th defeat in this edition. Batting first, DC scored 224 runs losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, GT team could score only 220 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs.
GT won the toss in the match and decided to bowl first. Team captain Rishabh Pant (88*) and Akshar Patel (66) played quick innings and took the score to 224 runs. Sandeep Warrier took 3 wickets for GT. In reply, Sai Sudarshan (65) and David Miller (55) played amazing innings for GT, but could not lead their team to victory. Rasikh Dar Salaam took maximum 3 wickets for DC.
Facing 43 balls in the match, Pant scored unbeaten 88 runs. 5 fours and 8 sixes came from his bat. His strike rate was 204.65. He made a partnership of 113 runs in 68 balls with Akshar and 67* runs in just 18 balls with Tristan Stubbs. This was his third half-century this season and 18th half-century of his IPL career. Pant scored 30 runs with the bat against Mohit in the 20th over of DC’s innings.
Mohit spent 73 runs in 4 overs. As a bowler, he has become the bowler who has given away the most runs in an innings of IPL. He has left Basil Thampi behind. He gave away 70 runs without taking any wicket against Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2018. Yash Dayal is at the third position in this list, who spent 69 runs without taking any wicket against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023.
Akshar faced 43 balls in the match and was out after scoring 66 runs with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes. This is also the best score of Akshar’s IPL career. After scoring the 14th run of his innings, Akshar also completed 1,500 runs in his IPL career.
Sudarshan scored quickly as soon as he came for GT and scored a half-century in just 29 balls. He made a partnership of 72 runs with Wriddhiman Saha (39). Facing 39 balls in the innings, he was out after scoring 65 runs with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. This was the 5th half-century of his IPL career.
Sandeep took his 3 wickets in the match during the powerplay itself. He took these wickets by spending only 15 runs. He has become only the second GT bowler to take 3 wickets during the powerplay in IPL. Before him, this feat was done by Mohammed Shami. DC scored 97 runs in the last 5 overs. This is the second highest number of runs scored in the last 5 overs in IPL history.
Miller was out after scoring 55 runs in 23 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. This was the 13th half-century of his IPL career and the second against DC, which he completed in just 21 balls.
