In the absence of seasoned bowlers, the newer faces in the camp have taken up the challenge to shoulder the responsibility their seniors have been taking, India Women’s bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi said on Tuesday.

The Women in Blue are in England, currently playing a five-match T20I series against the host, which will be followed by an ODI series. India leads the T20I series 2-1 with England winning the third match to open its account.

India’s squad includes younger and relatively inexperienced bowlers like Arundhati Reddy and N.

Sree Charani, and the likes of returning faces Amanjot Kaur and Radha Yadav. And according to Salvi, this group has done well to take the wickets in the absence of bowlers like Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar.

“When they came into the camp, the only challenge was whether they would be ready to shoulder the responsibilities that our senior players had taken. And the answer was obviously a yes. They were always hungry towards it that they want to do well. There was a lot of time we spent after practice during the meetings where we discussed about what is a suitable game plan for each of the bowlers.

There was a lot of clarity amongst them,” the coach told reporters on the eve of the fourth match in Manchester.

“Arundhati, Amanjot or whoever are there with us right now, they all are capable of delivering across phases, whether it be a T20 game or an ODI. The kind of experience that they’re getting right now at different platforms like in Sri Lanka and now in England, it will add a lot of experience to their kitty. They’ll probably emerge out as senior bowlers in the coming years,” he added.

In the third match, England denied India a series win by pulling off a last-ball thriller. After Arundhati, Deepti Sharma, and Charani restricted the host to 171, some effective death over bowling from English pacers like Lauren Filer and Issy Wong saw the host win it by five runs.
