The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced new guidelines for the players after the team’s defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The family time was cut down during the overseas tours. Virat Kohli was not happy with the policy, and despite Rohit Sharma’s conversation with the secretary of the Indian cricket board, the rule was not changed. Former India player Suresh Raina opened up on the issue.

Speaking to Ranveer Allahbadia, Raina said that having family members on a tour helps players. “You face mental issues when things are not going well, and there are a lot of playing waiting to take your spot. When you are down, you need someone to talk to,” Raina told him.

“When you are happy, you don’t anyone. When things are not going as planned, you don’t speak out with a fear of it reaching to the coach and the captain,” he added.

Raina gave Virat Kohli’s example. “It is important to have families on tour. I am against the BCCI’s rule. You are sending them out to play for two months, and family should be allowed. Families are not working against the players as they want us to score runs and take our team to win,” he mentioned.

“Imagine Virat Kohli is playing and his daughter is clapping for him. It would be a proud moment for the player. He would set the stage on fire.”
