The spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out for the T20I series in the Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka 2025, which is scheduled to begin on July 10.
He suffered a hamstring injury on his right leg while batting during the final ODI against the visitors in the just-concluded three-match ODI series.
The 27-year-old played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s 2-1 victory in the ODI series against Bangladesh.
Despite the MRI scan report is awaited, initial evaluations suggest the injury will keep him sidelined.
“Although the final MRI report is still pending, early indications suggest that Hasaranga may not be available for the series, which begins tomorrow in Kandy,” the report noted
The Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka has confirmed that Jeffrey Vandersay will replace the leg spinner in the Sri Lanka squad for the three-match series.
“He (Hasaranga) will be a huge loss for us. He is our superstar in white-ball cricket,” Asalanka said on Wednesday.
Wanindu Hasaranga will be returning to colombo to begin his rehabilitation at the High performance Center.
The Sri Lanka will be looking to bounce back from the previous T20I side to defeat to New Zealand.
The three match T20I series will be played on July 10, 13 and 16 in Pallekele, Dambulla and Colombo.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh have made five changes to their T20I squad for the upcoming series, with the top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto among those dropped.\
