Harry Brook Surpasses Joe Root to Top ICC Test Batter Rankings

England batter Harry Brook has secured the top position in the ICC Test batter rankings, replacing Joe Root, claiming 18 points ahead of his fellow teammate.

He made a solid 158 run knock in the first innings of the second test in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. Meanwhile, India’s test captain Shubman Gill has also jumped 15 places to secure the 6th spot with a career-best rating of 807.

His massive jump comes after his maiden double century amassing 269 and 161 runs in the second test. India amassed over 1000 runs in the match and secured a dominating 336-run win against England to level the series 1-1.

Since, taking over as India’s test captain, Shubman Gill has shown the masterclass having scored three centuries in four innings of two tests.

By this performances, India’s test captain has transformed his overseas form to silence critics who had questioned his performances outside Asia.

Gill has scored 585 runs in two tests, including two hundreds and a double hundred in the England tour.

On the other hand, Kane Williamson, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Steve Smith clinched retained third, fourth and fifth spot in the rankings.

England’s wk-batter Jamie Smith who made a 184* knock in the first innings and a solid 88 run knock in the second innings at Edgbaston has helped him rise 16 spots to No. 10.

On the other hand, South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder who got a mammoth 367* runs in the second Test against Zimbabwe, gained in both batters and all-rounder rankings.

While he made it to no. 22 position in the batter rankings, he moved 12 places to No. 3 among all-rounders with Ravindra Jadeja still leading the chart.

In Test bowler rankings, Jasprit Bumrah retains the No.1 spot despite not playing in Birmingham. Mohammed Siraj has rose six spots at No.22 after his six-wicket haul at Edgbaston.

Meanwhile, West Indies duo Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph has also made gains jumping to 29th and 31st spot.

Meanwhile, Charith Asalanka has gained two places to secure sixth position behind No. 1 ranked Gill on the ODI batter rankings after Sri Lanka secured 2-1 series triumph over Bangladesh.

His teammate Kusal Mendis has jumped 10 spots to moved to 10th spot after his impressive performance in the limited overs format. Hasaranga has also moved to 8th position on the ODI bowler rankings following his nine wickets across the three matches.
