At the event of Yuvraj Singh in London, Virat Kohli spoke openly on his Test retirement for the first time. He jailed for the beard, and the decision was correct. Kohli praised Shubman Gill and recalled his relationship with old colleagues.
Delhi: India’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli, who announced his retirement from Test cricket about two months ago, spoke openly for the first time. On 8 July 2025, at the fundamental event of YouWECAN Foundation organized by former cricketer Yuvraj Singh in London, Kohli responded to his decision to quit Test cricket.
Many old and new players of the Indian team participated in this event. Virat Kohli said in a funny way before climbing the stage, “I have colored my beard two days ago. When the beard has to be painted every four days, then now it is time to stop.” At the behest of Gaurav Kapoor, he said this while going on stage with Yuvraj Singh, Ravi Shastri, Kevin Pietersen, Chris Gayle and Darren Gough.
Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket through Instagram post on 12 May. He wrote, “It was not easy to take this decision, but it felt right. Gave everything to this format and in return found much more than it.” He expressed his gratitude for sports, fellow players and all the fans, who always appreciated him.
Kohli played a total of 123 matches in his Test career. He scored 9,230 runs in 210 innings. His average was 46.85 and the strike rate 55.58. He has 30 centuries and 31 half -centuries. Also included 7 double centuries, which are the highest by any Indian player. His best score was 254 runs.
Kohli was the first captain of India to create history by winning the Test Series (2018–19) in Australia. His retirement came just five days after captain Rohit Sharma left Test cricket. Since then, Kohli did not make any statement on cricket. But, now he congratulated the new captain of the Indian Test team Shubman Gill for a record innings of 269 runs in the second Test against England.
Kohli called Gill a “Star Boy” and wished for the future. India won the Test by 336 runs and made the series equal to 1-1. Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma were also seen in Wimbledon’s round of 16 matches during the match between Novak Djokovic and Alex de Minor.
