What's the story

Towhid Hridoy, the middle-order batter from Bangladesh, has gone past 1,000 runs in ODI cricket. The dashing batter achieved this milestone with his 15th run in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Having accomplished the milestone in 33 innings, Hridoy became the joint-second-quickest from his country to achieve this feat. He eventually departed for 51 runs.

Numbers

Hridoy is only behind these names

Hridoy, who made his ODI debut in March last year, took 33 innings and 37 games to complete 1,000 runs. As per ESPNcricinfo, Shahriar Nafees and Anamul Haque are the only Bangladesh batters to reach the milestone in fewer innings (29 each). Hence, Hridoy now sits in second place on this list alongside veteran all-rounder Soumya Sarkar.

Knock

A fine knock from Hridoy

Bangladesh were well placed at 73/2 when Hridoy arrived to bat.

However, the fall of regular wickets reduced the visitors to 159/5. Hridoy held one end and powered his team past 200 with a 45-run partnership with Jaker Ali. He brought up his fifty during his stay. A run-out in the 41st over ended his innings as Hridoy departed for a 69-ball 51 (2 fours).

Numbers

Here are his numbers

Playing his 37th game, he has raced to 1,036 runs at an average of 34.53. He owns nine 50-plus scores in the format, including a hundred. 373 of his runs have come in home matches at 46.62. He averages a poor 31.85 in neutral ODIs, having scored 446 runs.

217 of his runs have come in away (home of opposition) ODIs at 27.12.

Highest score on ODI debut for Bangladesh

Hridoy scripted history in March 2023 by recording the highest score by a Bangladesh batter on his ODI debut. The youngster accomplished the milestone versus Ireland, having scored 92 off 85 balls. Farhad Reza (50 vs Zimbabwe in 2006) and Nasir Hossain (63 vs Zimbabwe in 2011) are the other two Bangladesh batters with half-centuries on ODI debut.
