Shubman Gill has moved 585 runs in the first two Tests and stepped towards Don Bradman’s record. Sunil Gavaskar believes that Gill can break this record and become the first batsman to score 1000 runs in the Test series.
Delhi: India’s young Test captain Shubman Gill is in excellent form. He has scored a total of 585 runs by scoring three centuries in the first two Tests. Now they have a chance to create history. If Gill continues to play in this form, then Don Bradman can break the record of scoring the most runs in a series.
Don Bradman scored 974 runs in England in the 1930 Ashes series. He made this record in just seven innings. At the same time, Sunil Gavaskar is in the name of the highest record for India. He scored 774 runs in 8 innings on the West Indies tour in 1971.
Now Gavaskar is confident that Gill can not only break his record, but he can become the first batsman to complete 1,000 runs in a Test series. Talking to India Today, Gavaskar said that “Gill has all kinds of shots and the most important thing is that he is playing the responsibility well. I would be happy if another SG (Shubman Gill) breaks this record.”
Gavaskar also said that there is a special peace under the captaincy of Gill, which makes the players play easy to play. He said, “Gill should not change the way of his captaincy. Stay as he is. This is right for him.”
Now the third Test will be played at Lord’s from 10 July. India has played 19 Tests in Lord’s so far, out of which three have won, 12 have lost and four have been drawn. The last time in 2021, India defeated England by 151 runs on this ground.
Now everyone’s eyes are on whether Gill will be able to break Bradman’s record and whether he will be able to cross the magic figure of 1000 runs.
