Matt Short, Brody Couch and Romario Shepherd’s impressive display has helped San Francisco Unicorns to post a nail-biting victory in the MLC 2025 game against Texas Super Kings in Florida.
Matt Short’s 80-run knock has set up a base for the side to post a 1-run victory against the Faf du Plessis-led side on Saturday’s clash. By this victory, Washington Freedom has seven out of nine wins and secured second position in the MLC 2025 points table.
Batting first, Matt Short and Finn Allen opened the innings while Akeal Hosein opened the bowling attack.
Unicorns lost three wickets of Finn Allen (1), Jake Fraser-McGurk (3), Sanjay Krishnamurthi (2) within the powerplay.
Meanwhile, Hassan Khan and Matt Short has forged a 69-run partnership before Hassan being dismissed by Stoinis.
After Romario Shepherd’s dimissal for 13 runs, Hammad Azam 8* runs has pushed the total to 148 in their 20 over innings.
In the pursuit of chasing 149 run target, Smit Patel and Faf du Plessis opened the attack while Xavier Bartlett opened the bowling attack.
The openers Faf du Plessis and Smit Patel were sent out cheaply for 1 and 8 runs respectively by Brody Couch.
Meanwhile the contributions from Mukkamalla, Shubam Ranjane and Donovan Ferreira of 34, 28 and 39 taking the side close to victory. However, they narrowly missed the victory as they scored 147 runs in 20 over innings.
Matt Short was named as the Player of the match. Speaking in the post match conference, “Bit of a grind. Wicket was tacky. The ground was covered for most of the morning. The ground staff did an amazing job,” Short said.
“Couple of partnerships in the middle. Anything more than 130 was nice I suppose. The bowlers did a great job. Credit to them,” he concluded.
“We know how dangerous Donovan can be. We didn’t bowl to the conditions in the last game. We have come off two losses in a row. Nice to get the win tonight and get the momentum back,” Matt Short concluded.
San Fransisco Unicorns will play their last group stage against Los Angeles Knight Riders on 7th July at Lauderhill.
