The test captain, Shubman Gill, has registered his name in the history of Indian test after smashing a maiden double century during day 02 of the 2nd test against England at Edgbaston.
He become the 3rd Indian batter after Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid to slam double-century in tests on English soil.
Gavaskar scored a 221 runs in 1979 at The Oval while Dravid managed to score 202 runs in 2002 at The Oval. He went on to surpass Gavaskar and become the highest score for India in Tests in England.
After slated to bat first, India got two early dismissals, but got revived after with Jaiswal and Gill’s knocks.
Despite the dismissal of the opener for 87 runs, Shubman Gill went on to slam a century and joined Ravindra Jadeja to take India’s score past 300.
Ravindra Jadeja made a composed knock of 41 run off 67 deliveries including five boundaries, Indian captain Shubman Gill brought up a century (114* off 216 deliveries with 12 boundaries, as the duo stitched together a crucial 99-run stand.
They posted a score of 310 by the stumps on day 01. Resuming the game on day 02, they went on forge a 203 run partnership where Jadeja posted 89 runs.
Joining Washington Sundar, Gill made his 200 aiming to cross 500 run mark Edgbaston.
India lost the first game of the series and is looking to bounce back making significant changes in the line up which proved to be successful. Despite shining in batting unit, they lacked support from bowling department and also missed some catches at Headingley.
It would be interesting to see how India plans on their bowling strategy which they lacked during the first test.
