Delhi: The second Test match between West Indies and Australia will begin on Thursday, 3 July, which will be played at the National Cricket Stadium, St. George, Grenada. Australia is ahead 1-0 in this series. After the defeat in the first Test, the West Indies will now be eyeing equal.
West Indies started well in the first Test played at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Shamar Joseph and Jadon Seals bowled brilliantly and gave Australia to 180 runs in the first innings. Shamar took 4 wickets and Seals took 5 wickets. However, Travis Head played an important innings of 59 runs.
In the first innings, Roston Chase scored 44 and Shai Hope scored 48 runs for the West Indies, which gave the team a short lead of 10 runs. Australia started poorly in the second innings too. The West Indies took the first four wickets and Australia had just 55 runs. But after this, the fifty of Beu Webster, Alex Kerry and Travis Head brought the team to 300 runs. Shamar Joseph took 4 wickets again.
The West Indies got a target of 301 runs to win the match, but the team’s batting failed completely. Australian bowlers bowled on the best line and length. The West Indies team was all out for just 141 runs and the match lost by 159 runs. Josh Hazlewood took 5 wickets for Australia.
Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith could not play in the first Test due to finger injury, but now he is expected to return. However, whether he will field in slip or not, it is not clear. Australia’s top order batting seems weak for some time, in such a situation, Smith’s presence can strengthen the team. Wicketkeeper batsman Josh English scored only 5 and 12 runs in the first Test, so he can be out.
So far, only four Test matches have been held in the National Cricket Stadium, Grenada. Three of these three times have won the team chasing the target in the fourth innings. There is a match draw. The pitch here helps fast bowlers. The batsmen will have to play with good technology. The role of spinners can be limited on this pitch.
