India’s cricketing icons Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have officially retired from T20I and Test cricket, and will now focus solely on the ODI format.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting their return to international action, but as per recent reports, that wait might get even longer. The delay in their comeback has also put the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a tight spot.
After the Test series against England, Team India was scheduled to tour Bangladesh for a series comprising three ODIs and three T20Is.
The series against Bangladesh, featuring ODIs-T20Is, is scheduled to begin on August 17 in Dhaka.
However, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media committee chairman Iftikhar Rahman revealed to AFP that the BCCI has indicated the tour could be postponed.
BCCI is reportedly still waiting for clearance from the Government of India for this tour. The delay in receiving permission may lead to the series being rescheduled.
As a result, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who were expected to return to the field on August 17, may now have to wait longer.
With the Bangladesh tour uncertain, all eyes are now on the Australia tour in October, where India will play three ODIs and five T20Is.
The first match of the series is scheduled for October 19 in Perth, and that could mark the return of both Rohit and Virat to international cricket.
Following IPL 2025, both players are currently spending time with their families. According to reports, they are focused on preparing for the ODI World Cup 2027, with their last ODI appearance being in the final of the Champions Trophy 2025.
