Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma scripted a new world record and went past Australian batters Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney as India batted well against England in the first T20I at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Saturday.

Stand-in captain Mandhana scored 112 and she became the first Indian woman cricketer to amass hundreds across three formats in international cricket. She faced 62 balls and took the Women in Blue to 210/5 in 20 overs.

Mandhana, Shafali enter record books

Mandhana and Shafali have now recorded the most fifty-plus partnerships by a pair in Women’s T20I cricket with 21 stands, going past Healy and Mooney.

Shafali went back to the dressing room in the ninth over and Mandhana was assisted by Harleen Deol, who posted 43 from 23 balls.

Shree charani impresses on debut

The England spinners failed to stop the India batters. In reply, the Indian spinners showed their class with debutant Shree Charani claiming 4/12. English captain Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 66 from 42 balls, but her effort was not enough as the hosts were bowled out for 113 in 14.5 overs and suffered a 97-run loss, their biggest in the shortest format.
