India vs england: Team India lost by 5 wickets in the first Test match played between India and England at Headingley. In this match, the Indian batsmen made a big score to a strong position, but the team failed completely on the bowling and fielding front.
After this defeat, where the bowling selection was raised questions, a decision by captain Shubman Gill caught a lot of attention. That decision was to bring Shardul Thakur late in bowling. Shardul was handed the ball in the 40th over of England’s first innings, by then experienced batsmen like Joe Root had settled. Ravichandran Ashwin has supported Shardul Thakur, questioning the decision.
Former Indian player Ravichandran Ashwin, while raising a direct question on the decision, said that Shardul had a good record against the route, so it was not in the interest of the team to give him a late ball. Ashwin said, “You have taken Shardul Thakur in the team and did not stop the ball for 40 overs. And then the root was batting. Shardul has a good match against the route. If you are not using them properly then this selection is beyond comprehension.”
Shardul was definitely brought first in the second innings but still threw only 10 overs. He took two wickets but he is being called ‘Lucky’ Breakthrough. According to Ashwin, how will he be able to show his influence if you do not use a bowler. For this reason, he said that it is wrong to question his performance.
Former vice -captain Ajinkya Rahane also supported Ashwin’s words, saying that Shardul is an experienced player and has done well in foreign Tests. Rahane said, “Shardul Thakur can swing on both sides and has the ability to take wickets. In such a situation, he should have made a new ball or the first bowling change.”
