Prithvi Shaw recently recalled about a memorable moment when Chandrakant Pandit, the head coach of KKR, played a prank on him.The incident took place during a domestic match in 2017, while Pandit was coaching Mumbai.

Shaw was having a conversation with Rohit Sharma near the boundary rope. When he returned to the dressing room, Pandit questioned him about what he had discussed with Sharma. When Shaw admitted he couldn’t recall the conversation, Pandit directed him to approach Sharma again and ask for the details.

Following the match, Shaw was taken aback when Pandit arranged a ticket for him and instructed him to return home. Overwhelmed with emotion, Shaw began to cry. However, just as he was about to depart, Pandit revealed it was a prank.

This story was shared by Shaw during an interview with News24 Sports.

“Chandu sir once played a prank on me, and it felt incredibly real at the time. In 2017, I was playing One-Day matches for Mumbai, but with Rohit Sharma coming in for the last two games, I had to sit out. It’s well known that Chandu sir is very strict, and I was just delivering drinks near the boundary rope,” Prithvi Shaw said.

“It was the first time I met Rohit bhai. He was positioned at third man, and I spent some time chatting with him. When I went back to the dressing room, sir asked me what we had talked about. I told him I didn’t recall, and he asked me to return to the field and find out from him what we had discussed,” Prithvi Shaw added.

Pandit has built a strong reputation as a coach, having led Mumbai, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh to victory in the Ranji Trophy. He also played an important role in guiding Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL title in 2024.
