West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales described his five-wicket haul against Australia on the first day of the opening Test in Barbados as his best performance in Test cricket so far.

Seales, along with fellow pacer Shamar Joseph, tore through the Australian batting line-up, dismissing the tourists for a mere 180. However, the Australians fought back, leaving the hosts struggling at 57/4 by the close of play on Day 1 at Kensington Oval.

Seals finished with bowling figures of 5/60 from 15.5 overs while Joseph took 4/46.

This was the third time in his brief international career that Seales had achieved a five-wicket haul.

The 23-year-old expressed that this particular performance was his favourite because he didn’t feel completely in control throughout the day.

“This is probably my best five-wicket haul because it wasn’t my best day, and I didn’t feel at my best at any time throughout the day. There were moments I felt good, but during spells, I didn’t feel like I was fully in control or executing my lengths and lines as consistently as I wanted. So, this one is probably my most special," Seales told the ICC.
Joseph initiated the early damage for the West Indies, dismissing Sam Konstas and Cameron Green during an opening spell that reduced Australia to 22/3.

It took an 89-run partnership between Travis Head and Usman Khawaja to regain some momentum for the Australians.
“I think that’s what opened the game up for us. Blowing away the top-order is the most important thing in this cricket, and that made it a lot easier for us in the middle and at the back end of the innings. He did a fantastic job for us today," Seales said regarding Joseph’s early spell.
