Temba Bavuma Ruled Out for Zimbabwe Tests due to Injury

South Africa’s WTC title winning captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out for the upcoming test series against Zimbabwe due to left hamstring injury. Keshav Maharaj will lead the Proteas Men in the two match test series of South Africa’s tour of Zimbabwe 2025 beginning on June 28.

Temba Bavuma sustained an injury during day three of the World Test Championship Finals (WTC 2025 finals). The incident occured in the second innings where he pulled out a half century bearing the pain.

His partnership with Aiden Markram provided a well defined victory for South Africa and claimed their maiden WTC title. “Proteas Men’s Test captain Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe due to a left hamstring strain,” a statement said.

It is reported that Bavuma will be undergoing scans to know the extent of the injury.

“He is set to undergo further scans to assess the extent of the injury,” the statement further read.

Bavuma’s 66 runs off 134 deliveries and a 147-run partnership with Aiden Markram has helped South Africa to clinch its first ICC trophy in 27 years.

The first test between South Africa and Zimbabwe will be played on June 28 onwards while the second match will kick off on July 06. Both matches will be played at the Queens Sports Club in Zimbabwe’s Bulawayo.
