After piling up a strong total of 471 runs in the first innings, India wasted no time in making an impact with the ball on Day 2 of the Leeds Test.
Spearhead Jasprit Bumrah delivered a perfect opening spell, dismissing England opener Zak Crawley in just the first over.
Bowling with the new ball, Bumrah once again proved why he's one of the best in the world.
He bowled a well-directed length delivery that pitched on middle and leg, stayed low off the surface, and moved slightly inward. The ball brushed Crawley’s back thigh after taking a faint edge and flew to the first slip, where it was safely caught.
Crawley managed just 4 runs, and England’s innings began on a shaky note. With conditions favoring the seamers, India will be looking to press home the advantage early.

Team India made a commanding start to the five-match Test series against England, posting a formidable 471 runs in their first innings of the opening Test at Headingley, Leeds.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, India’s top-order delivered a clinical performance, led by centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal, captain Shubman Gill, and vice-captain Rishabh Pant.
Jaiswal laid the foundation with a fluent 101, showcasing his growing maturity in overseas conditions. Shubman Gill followed with a captain’s knock of 147 runs off 227 deliveries, anchoring the innings through the middle phase.
Rishabh Pant, known for his fearless strokeplay, added a quickfire 134, further strengthening India’s grip on the game. However, after a strong start, India suffered a brief collapse post-lunch on Day 2, with England’s bowlers — especially Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue — making crucial breakthroughs. The two shared eight wickets between them to restrict India from crossing the 500-run mark.
Despite the late stumble, India’s first-innings total puts them in a strong position. With overcast conditions aiding bowlers, the pressure now shifts to England’s batting lineup, which has already lost opener Zak Crawley early to a sharp Jasprit Bumrah delivery.
