IND vs Eng Headingley Day 1 Highlights: The first match of the five -match Test series between India and England is being played in the Leeds of Headingley. England won the toss and decided to bowl. Batting first, the Indian batsmen plagued the England bowlers. On the very first day, the Indian batsmen broke more than one record with their best batting.
The first day of the Handingley Test was in India’s name where the first session was started by Indian players in a strong manner. In the second session, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill did not allow the wicket to fall. After Yashasvi was dismissed in the third session, Gill shared a strong partnership with vice -captain Rishabh Pant and pushed England on the back foot.
England won the toss and invited India to bat first. The Indian opening batsmen took advantage of this. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal batted strongly and added 91 runs for the first wicket. However, Bridan Cars dismissed Rahul and broke the partnership.
After this, India immediately suffered a second shock as Sai Sudarshan, which was dismissed without opening an account. After this, Yashasvi Jaiswal carried forward the innings with captain Gill and shared 129 runs for the third wicket. After this Ben Stokes took the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, facing 144 balls, scored the first century of his Test career in England. At the other end, Captain Gill faced 175 balls unbeaten by scoring 127 runs. Along with this, Gill has also become the fourth player to score a century in debut captaincy. Earlier, Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli managed to do so. For the first day, Ben Stokes made two more Bridan Cars for England.
On the tour of England, Deputy captain and Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant overtook MS Dhoni in terms of scoring the most runs as a wicketkeeper batsman. In this case, he defeated Dhoni, who scored 1731 runs. On the first day against England, Pant scored 65 runs facing 102 balls.
