Former India player Irfan Pathan has revealed his Team India’s squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament will be played in the West Indies and USA. The Men in Blue won the title in the inaugural edition in 2007 and since then it has been a long story of failures. Pathan’s team is on the expected lines, barring two spots. Rishabh Pant is slowly coming back to his best but Sanju Samson is a better option than him at the moment.
The Rajasthan Royals captain has recorded better numbers than Pant across departments. Also, Yuzvendra Chahal is way ahead of Ravi Bishnoi in terms of wicker-taking abilities. The former India all-rounder has named Pant as the main wicker-keeper, with Chahal and Bishnoi fighting for the second spinner’s position.
Irfan will open with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma, with Virat Kohli placed in the third spot. Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh and Shivam Dube occupy the next three spots. Hardik Pandya’s selection depends on his bowling.
Rinku Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj are automatic selections. There is a toss up between Ravi Bishnoi-Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson-Shubman Gill for the 14th and 15th spots.
The notable absentees are Ishan Kishan, Avesh Khan and Shreyas Iyer.
