SL vs BAN, 1st Test Day 2: Mushfiqur, Litton push Bangladesh towards formidable first-innings total

Despite both Mushfiqur and Litton falling in the space of an over, the Bangladesh lower-order withstood a three-wicket haul from Milan Rathnayake to finish the day on 484 for nine.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das’ 149-run partnership ensured Bangladesh had a firm grip on proceedings after day two of the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Wednesday.

Despite both batters falling in the space of an over, the Bangladesh lower-order withstood a three-wicket haul from Milan Rathnayake to finish the day on 484 for nine.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto added just twelve to his overnight tally of 136 before chipping a full delivery straight to Angelo Matthews at mid-off.

Mushfiqur and Litton continued to frustrate the host side’s bowlers with their long association. Mushfiqur brought up his 150 in 284 balls before rain stopped the game briefly, forcing an early Tea.

The veteran batter was eventually dismissed ten overs after Tea, playing down the wrong line on a full ball angled in. A hopeful review did not bear fruit as technology sided with the on-field umpire on hitting.

Litton was dismissed ten short of his hundred when he nicked an attempted reverse-sweep against the ambidextrous Tharindu Rathnayake after a continous leg-stump barrage.

The next eight overs produced three wickets as Milan managed to breach the batters’ defences with some movement in the air. The last-wicket pair of Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana managed to see off the final few balls of the day to extend the visitor’s first innings into a third day.
