As the Indian team gears up for a challenging Test series against England starting June 20, wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has revealed who now occupies former skipper Rohit Sharma’s seat in the team bus. Rohit retired from Test cricket last month, a decision that left the cricketing fraternity emotional and nostalgic. A week ago fans across social media shared a clip of Ravindra Jadaja — Rohit’s former seat partner — sitting alone and looking visibly sad.
Talking to India TodayKuldeep revealed that he now occupies the seat once taken by Rohit on the team bus, he also said he can never replace Rohit’s place in the team. He explained that he’s been spending more time with Jadeja, which he believes is valuable—especially in the absence of Ravichandran Ashwin.
“Uspe main baithta hu (I sit there). I can never take Rohit bhai’s place. It’s just that I am spending more time with Jaddu bhai. It’s important as a spinner for me because Ash bhai is not there. I have learnt a lot from him,” Kuldeep stated.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep has played alongside both Ashwin and Jadeja since the beginning of his cricketing journey, considers himself lucky to have Jadeja as a spin partner and is thoroughly enjoying their partnership.
“When I started my cricket, I have played with both of them. Very lucky to have Jadeja as my spin partner. I am enjoying it,” he further added.
With Team India set to begin a new chapter under Shubman Gill’s leadership, Kuldeep faces a bigger responsibility in the upcoming Test series. With stalwarts like Ashwin bidding farewell to the longest format, Kuldeep now shoulders the task of stepping up in India’s spin attack during the English summer. So far, he has had limited opportunities in Test cricket, but this series could mark a turning point in his red-ball journey.
Featuring in 13 Test matches, picking up an impressive tally of 56 wickets. With a bowling average of 22.16, he has proven to be a consistent wicket-taker in the longest format. Notably, the left-arm wrist-spinner has claimed four five-wicket hauls during this period, underlining his ability to make significant breakthroughs when given the opportunity.
