Eleven people died while 33, including a six-year-old girl, were injured as fans gathered outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 title win, on Wednesday.

As reported by The Hindu, the incident happened at the gates of the stadium where the RCB team was to be felicitated for its maiden IPL title.

Sources told The Hindu that the deceased were taken to Bowring Hospital in Shivajinagar.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed the casualties in the horrific incident and announced a compensation of Rs. 10 lakh for the kin of deceased.

Thousands of fans had converged at the Chinnaswamy stadium since early evening in expectation of celebrating with the RCB team.

Roads in and around the stadium were choked and traffic police had trouble ensuring smooth movement of vehicles in the central business district.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said, “It is very unfortunate. This is a negative side of popularity. People are crazy for their cricketers. The organisers should have planned it better. My deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. I wish early recovery of the injured.”

Saikia criticised the poor organisation of the event while pointing out to title celebrations in Kolkata and Mumbai, respectively, when Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL and Indian team won the T20 World Cup last year.

“When one organises a victory celebration of this magnitude, proper precautions, safety and security measures need to be taken. There have been some lapses somewhere. After such a glorious ending to the IPL, this has been an anti-climax.

“Even yesterday in Ahmedabad, during the IPL final, there were 120,000 people at the stadium but BCCI has a dedicated team which has done elaborate planning in coordination with local district administration and law-enforcing authorities to ensure that safety and security of the spectators,” he added.
