The BBL star Mitchell Owen and Matt Kuhnemann have earned their maiden T20I call-ups in the Australia squad for West Indies T20Is, which are set to be played next month.

Meanwhile, Jake Fraser-McGurk has been a notable omission in the squad. The opener batter has featured in seven of Australia’s last eight outings, where he has made only one fifty, failing to cross 20 in other innings.

Mitchell Owen completed as the highest run getter with 452 runs in 11 games at an average of 45.20 and a staggering strike-rate of 203.6 in the previous edition of the BBL. His notable knock comes in the finals, scoring 108 runs in 42 deliveries, which helped Hobart Hurricanes to the title.

Mitchell Marsh has been named as the captain after an impressive campaign with LSG in the IPL 2025. He went on to score 627 runs in 13 innings, including a maiden century in the Indian league.

On the other hand, Glenn Maxwell who recently announced his ODI retirement has been named in the squad, while Tim David who missed the last few games in the recently concluded IPL season, has been also included.

Cameron Green, Cooper Connolly and Josh Hazlewood has also been named in the Australia squad.

“We have a busy T20 schedule coming up through this series, followed by three against South Africa and New Zealand and five matches against India at home as we continue to refine and build a squad we think will be the right fit for the World Cup on the subcontinent,” Chair of Selectors George Bailey said.

“There are a number of players outside the squad who can still force their way into the mix for those upcoming Indian Series and through the Big Bash,” added Bailey.

“The connection, role development and combinations we will have as options are growing nicely as we build towards the World Cup. It’s an exciting time in our T20 space,” concluded George Bailey.

The five match T20I series is set to begin on July 19 at Jamaica after the three match test series and hence Australia has decided to rest Pat Cummins, Travis Head and Mitchell Starc.
