The second qualifier match of IPL 2025 will be played between Mumbai Indians (Mi) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday. The match will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where the winning team has to face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final. On one hand, Punjab had lost a crushing defeat to RCB in the first qualifier, while Mumbai made a strong comeback by defeating Gujarat Titans in Eliminator.
Punjab return to playoffs
PBKS (East Kings XI Punjab) made it to the playoffs in 2008, 2014 and 2025. The team reached the final in 2014 but lost to KKR. This time he performed brilliantly in the league stage, winning 9 out of 14 matches. However, the defeat of RCB in Qualifier-1 has raised the team’s concern.
Mumbai returns to rhythm
Mumbai Indians made a tremendous comeback after the slow start of the season. After losing four out of the first five matches, the team won six consecutive matches and entered the playoffs. The 20 -run win over Gujarat in eliminator has boosted his confidence.
Head to head and important figures
There have been 33 matches between the two teams so far, in which Mi has won 17 and PBKS has won 16. Punjab defeated Mumbai in the only match of this season. This will be the first time that both teams will face face to face in the playoffs. Mumbai’s playoff record has been excellent – 14 out of 21 wins, while Punjab has registered only one win in five playoffs.
In Ahmedabad, Mi will have to face challenging history, where they have won only one match so far, while PBKs have won four out of six.
