The Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma’s solid knock has helped the side to post a mammoth total in the Eliminators of the IPL 2025 on May 30 at Maharaja Yadavindra International Cricket Stadium.
He made a 50-ball 81 in Friday’s clash to put 228 runs on the scorecard.
Mumbai Indians and Gujarat are playing in the eliminators game, where the winning team will advance to Qualifier 02.
Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow opened the innings while Mohammed Siraj opened the bowling attack. With Bairstow going on for an aggressive start, he scored 47 runs off 22 deliveries before being dismissed by Sai Kishore.
Along with Rohit Sharma, Jonny made an 84-run partnership for the first wicket. With SKY joining Rohit at the crease, Rohit went on to score a fifty.
Meanwhile Sai Kishore provided another breakthrough picking the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav for 33 runs.
With Rohit Sharma lost his wicket to Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma lost his wicket to Siraj for 25 runs.
With Hardik Pandya’s 22* runs, Mumbai Indians posted 228 runs in their innings.
Speaking at the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya said, “We’re going to bat. Looks like a different track to yesterday. Bit of less grass. Big game, scoring runs and defending would be nice.”
“We all are aware, for the last 9 games we have been playing it like a knockout. Really need to turn up today and focus on the things which we can control. We’ve got three changes: Jonny comes back, Gleeson makes his debut and Raj Angad Bawa plays,” concluded Hardik Pandya.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill said, “We would’ve chased. If someone would’ve said at the start of the season that we would’ve qualified, we would’ve taken it. Boys are very excited to be able to come back here in Chandigarh, it’s my home town. This game is no different for us, no pressure of the knockout game or anything. Two changes – Mendis comes in for Buttler and Washington for Arshad.”
