Former India player Mohammad Azharuddin had a great start to his Test cricket, slamming hundreds in three consecutive matches. The record still stands unconquered despite several batters starting on a brilliant note. Navjot Singh Sidhu, who played under Azhar’s captaincy, recently compared Yashasvi Jaiswal with the legendary cricketer.

Jaiswal had a great start to his Test career, and he accumulated more than 700 runs in the five-match Test series against England. However, he couldn’t carry the form to the Indian Premier League 2024. The southpaw failed in the first seven matches of the season before hitting a hundred against Mumbai Indians in Jaipur.

The young batter was dropped once by one of the MI fielders, and he didn’t look back and completed his second IPL century against the five-time champions. Sidhu has been praising Yashasvi from day 1 of the new season, saying he doesn’t have any technical flaws and just needs to spend time at the crease.

Jaiswal finally followed the suggestion and came up with a brilliant knock. “He is like Mohammad Azharuddin. Jaiswal had a brilliant start to his career but failed in IPL. Azhar had a similar story and came out of poor form with flying colours. Jaiswal did the same. You can’t run away from failures in cricket as they are bound to happen. Cricket is a great leveller,” Navjot Singh Sidhu said on Star Sports.

Meanwhile, Yashasvi scored an unbeaten 104 runs off 60 balls, laced with 9 fours and 7 sixes to take Rajasthan to a win by 9 wickets while chasing 180. He had scored more than 600 runs in IPL 2023, which opened the doors of the Indian team for him, and the batter has now become one of the most consistent openers.
