Lucknow: T20 World Cup 2024 is to be played jointly hosted by West Indies and USA in June. All cricket boards have to announce their teams for this World Cup by May 1. In such a situation, India will also have to announce its 15-member squad by the same deadline, for which there is not much time left. There are many players competing for a place in the World Cup team and it is going to be very difficult for the selectors to decide which players to select.
At least two players are giving tough competition to each other for almost every department and every position in the Indian team. The role of wicketkeeper is also included in this series. Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma and now experienced Dinesh Karthik have also joined the list for wicketkeeper in the World Cup. In such a situation, while talking on Star Sports, former veteran all-rounder Irfan Pathan has named two wicketkeepers who can cement their place in the team.

He said, “Sanju Samson should be in the World Cup team. If you ask me, I will choose Sanju as the second wicketkeeper. He will definitely be in the World Cup team, even if he goes with the team only as a backup. For me, the first wicketkeeper will be Rishabh Pant because he bats well in the lower order. Sanju also has the ability to bat at any position but still I will choose Pant first and Samson as the second wicketkeeper.
If we talk about Sanju, he has shown excellent performance with the bat in IPL 2024 and has been excellent with both bat and captaincy. The right-handed batsman has led the team to victory in 7 out of 8 matches under his captaincy and is also present at the first position in the points table. Apart from this, he performed brilliantly with the bat and scored 311 runs at an average of 62.20 and strike rate of 152.45. During this period, he has scored 3 half-centuries with his bat, while his best score has been 82 runs.
