Rajasthan Royals one step away from playoffs due to Yashasvi Jaiswal's unbeaten century, one-sided defeat of Mumbai Indians

RR vs MI: In the 38th match of IPL 2024, Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 9 wickets and registered their seventh win of the season. Playing first, Mumbai Indians scored 179/9 in 20 overs, in reply Rajasthan Royals scored 183/1 in 18.4 overs. Sandeep Sharma opened the bowling for Rajasthan Royals, while Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an unbeaten century in batting.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bat first but had a very bad start. Rohit Sharma became the victim of Trent Boult in the very first over while trying to play a big shot after scoring 6 runs. After this, Sandeep Sharma dismissed Ishan Kishan (0) and Suryakumar Yadav (10). In this way, Mumbai team's score became 20/3 in the fourth over itself. From here Mohammad Nabi adopted an aggressive stance and along with Tilak Verma took the score beyond 50. Yuzvendra Chahal broke this partnership and achieved the record of 200 wickets in IPL by dismissing Nabi. Tilak Verma and Nehal Vadhera took the innings of Mumbai Indians, who were looking in trouble, forward. Both of them made a partnership of 99 runs in 52 balls, due to which the score crossed 150. Vadhera, playing his first match of the season, scored 49 runs in 24 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes. However, captain Hardik Pandya again disappointed and scored just 10 runs in 10 balls.

Tilak was also out in the last over. He played an inning of 65 runs in 45 balls. In the same over, Sandeep opened his claws by dismissing Gerald Coetzee (0) and Tim David (3). In this way the score of Mumbai Indians remained within 180. Sandeep Sharma took maximum five wickets for Rajasthan Royals. At the same time, Trent Boult also achieved two successes.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an excellent century

Rajasthan Royals had a good start while chasing the target. The pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler made a partnership of 50 or more for the first time in the current season. The partnership of 74 runs between these two was broken by Piyush Chawla and Butler returned to the pavilion after scoring 35 runs in 25 balls with the help of six fours. Jaiswal batted brilliantly and completed his half-century in 31 balls and then scored the second century of his career in 59 balls.

Rajasthan Royals achieved the target in the 19th over thanks to an unbeaten partnership of 109 runs between Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Sanju Samson. Jaiswal played an innings of 104 runs in 60 balls with the help of nine fours and seven sixes. Whereas, Samson remained unbeaten after scoring 38 runs in 28 balls.
