The late cameo from Marcus Stoinis in the death overs has propelled the Punjab Kings’ score to 206/8 during the IPL 2025 game against Delhi Capitals on May 24 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
After Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal, Stoinis took charge to take the side over 200 run mark at Saturday’s clash.
Batting first, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings while Mukesh Kumar opened the bowling attack. Mustafizur Rahman provided the first breakthrough, dismissing dangerous Priyansh Arya for 6 runs.
However, Josh Inglis joined Prabhsimran Singh and scored 32 runs in 12 deliveries, which included 3 fours and 2 sixes.
But Inglis lost his wicket to Vipraj Nigam in the 6th over, and Punjab Kings went to finish their powerplay 60/2.
With Prabhsimran Singh scored 28 runs, Nehal Wadhera lost his wicket for 16 runs to Mukesh Kumar.
On the other hand, Shashank Singh lost his wicket to Mustafizur which led Punjab Kings tattering with 144 runs for five wickets. Meanwhile Shreyas Iyer went on to smash fifty before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav.
With Azmatullah Omarzai, and Marco Jansen went on to lose their wickets cheaply to Kuldeep and Mustafizur respectively, Marcus Stoinis went on aggressive mode scoring 44 runs off 16 deliveries which included 3 fours and 4 sixes.
Marcus Stoinis along with Harpreet Brar remained unbeaten helping PBKS to post 206 run total in their 20 over innings.
Mustafizur Rahman made a three wicket haul while Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav bagged two wickets each and Mukesh ended his spell with one dismissal.
Speaking at the toss, Faf du Plessis said, “We will have a bowl. I think today it is 50-50. Just the makeup of the side. We are playing an extra batter. It helps while chasing. It has been very frustrating.”
“We started well. Then went on a roller coaster. We have played enough T20 cricket to understand. We played well in the last game for the first 17 overs. Then lost focus. We are playing for the fifth spot. We had our goals to get into top four,” concluded du Plessis.
On the other hand, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer said, “Defintely happy faces. I am not satisfied and content. We want to build momentum from here. Each and every individual is performing for the team. Job half done as of now. Important to stay in the present and seize every possible chance. Inglis and Stoinis come back into the side,” concluded Iyer.
