Mitchell Marsh continued his red-hot form in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) and hit his maiden century in the league with a stunning knok of 117 runs in just 64 balls against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Mitchell's stunning effort helped Lucknow put up a huge score of 236 on the board as they aim to finish on fifth spot in the table. Nicholas Pooran hit a quick-fire knock of 56 in 29 balls while Aiden Markram (36 in 24) and Rishabh Pant (16* in 6) came up with useful contributions.
Mitchell Marsh Creates History
This marked the first IPL century of Mitchell's career after making his debut in the 2010 season.
This was his 54th match of his IPL career in a period he has played for six teams. Marsh made his debut for the Deccan Chargers, Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant,Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals before he joined LSG before the 2025 season. Marsh's 15-year-old wait is the longest period between a player's IPL debut and first century in the tournament. He is the first player in the world to take longer than 15 years. Previously, Shikhar Dhawan and Sunil Narine made their first ton in the competition 12 years post their debut. Dhawan also holds the record for the most innings played (167) before his first IPL century. Mayank Agarwal made his maiden IPL ton nine years post his debut, while both Virat Kohli and Ambati Rayudu reached the milestone eight years after playing their first IPL match.Mitchell Marsh-Shaun Marsh Create History
The Marsh brothers have become the first pair of siblings to score a century in the IPL. Shaun had scored a ton against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the inaugural season in 2008 when he won the purple cap. Shaun holds the record for being the quickest to complete 1000 IPL runs, while Marsh has taken the longest (15 years) to reach the milestone.
A total of nine pairs of brothers have played the IPL (Hussey Brothers, Pathan Brothers, Curran Brothers, Morel Brothers, Chahar Brothers, Jansen Brothers, McCullum Brothers), but no one apart from the Marsh's has managed to score a ton. Michael Hussey, Brendon McCullum, Yusuf Pathan reached the milestone but their siblings did not. Quite intrestingly, Mitchell has made five half-centuries and one ton in the 2025 IPL, which is identical to Shaun's performance in 2008. Before the 2025 season, Mitchell had just three 50+ scores in the IPL to his name, a tally he has doubled in the ongoing campaign alone.
