India batter Shreyas Iyer is set to play the semi-final fixture of the Ranji Trophy 2024. Iyer has been named in the Mumbai squad in the team's clash against Tamil Nadu.

The batter will play in Ranji Trophy, just days after he was dropped from the BCCI central contract.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India, in an official press release said that Iyer was told to focus on playing domestic cricket when he was not available for the national team.

"Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations," the BCCI stated in a media release.

"The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team," the release added.

Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane was thrilled to have Shreyas Iyer back in the side for the semi-final fixture against Tamil Nadu, which starts on March 2. Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Rahane said that the team would benefit from Iyer's experience at the international standard.

"He's an experienced player. His contribution has been amazing whenever he turned up for Mumbai. We are thrilled to have him in our team for the semifinal," Rahane said before his team takes on Tamil Nadu in the Ranji semifinals.

"I don't think he needs any encouragement or advice. He has always contributed with the bat for Mumbai, and him being around other players in the dressing room will also help the team's cause," the Mumbai skipper added.
