Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) is all set to release some of their costliest players ahead of the next season following their disappointing IPL 2025 campaign.

IPL's most expensive player, Rishabh Pant, was the biggest flop for LSG, but it is Mayank Yadav who is set to face the exile.

As IPL 2025 enters its final stage, all 10 teams are already starting to think ahead to next season. A Revsportz report claimed that the several big-name players who were bought for huge amounts could be released by their teams ahead of the IPL 2026.

LSG set to axe INR 11 Crore speedster Mayank Yadav after IPL 2025

After the ongoing season, teams will review their squads closely, and some expensive stars may be traded or even released to make room for fresh plans and better balance next year.

Revsportz claimed through their sources that Rishabh Pant is safe for the next season, but Mayank Yadav's fate has already been sealed by the team management and the owner, Sanjiv Goenka.

Mayank stunned the cricketing world last year by regularly clocking over 150 kph, but he has lost his spark in 2025. The Lucknow Super Giants placed massive trust in the young pacer by retaining him for a hefty INR 11 crore, but that investment hasn't paid off at all.

Mayank Yadav's injuries and dip in pace force LSG to take strong action

Returning to competitive cricket for the first time since October 2024 after recovering from the injury, the speedster has disappointed with a drastic dip in pace and form.

Mayank played only two matches in IPL 2025 against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) and picked up two wickets but leaked runs at a shocking economy of 12.50.

The pace that once thrilled fans was missing, and his accuracy was also not satisfactory. And then, again, before the resumption of the IPL 2025, Mayank sustained another back injury that ruled him out of the final leg of the tournament.

LSG replaced him with New Zealand's Will O'Rourke at INR 3 crore.

Mayank Yadav's IPL journey

Mayank Yadav made his IPL debut last year, and he could play only four matches and took seven wickets before an injury ruled him out of the IPL 2024. In this season, the story was the same and even worse, as he could play only two matches and managed only two scalps for the LSG.

Now, LSG is considering releasing the young pace sensation to sign someone who can play as many matches for them instead of blocking their huge amount on someone who gets injured after only a couple of matches. And sources already claimed that Mayank will not be part of LSG next year.

However, LSG captain Rishabh Pant is all set to get another opportunity to prove himself after enduring poor campaign both as captain and batter.

The Report reads: "While Rishabh Pant has had a poor season, sources say that LSG will want to continue with him for one more season in 2026 at least. They will look at the current season as a one-off aberration."
