On This Day: MI defeated CSK in Qualifier 1 to enter IPL 2015 final

Looking for their second IPL title, Mumbai Indians defeated then two-time champions Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier to enter their third IPL final in 2015. Rohit Sharma and his men defeated MS Dhoni-led CSK by 25 runs in the qualifier one to confirm their spot in the title clash after 2010 and 2013.

Batting first, MI posted a total of 187 runs for the loss of six wickets. In reply, CSK were bowled out for 162 runs in 19 overs. Coming to bat first after winning the toss, MI got a good start as Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel put up an opening partnership of 90 runs for the first wicket in 10.4 overs. Simmons got out after scoring 65(51) runs, hitting three fours and five sixes, while Parthiv contributed with 35 off 25 balls with four fours and a six. After that, Kieron Pollard played a quickfire knock of 41(17) runs as MI crossed the 180-run mark. For CSK, Dwayne Bravo took three wickets while Ravindra Jadeja, Mohit Sharma and Ashish Nehra scalped a wicket each.

Lasith Malinga's spell guided MI to convincing win over CSK 

Chasing the winning target, CSK kept losing wickets at regular intervals as MI's star pacer Lasith Malinga took charge from the very first over. For CSK, Faf du Plessis top scored with 45(34), hitting five fours and a six, while Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo and Ravichandran Ashwin contributed with 25, 20, and 23 runs respectively.

Apart from that, none of the other batters could play a big knock as CSK lost their all 10 wickets with one over to go. For MI, Lasith Malinga registered figures of 3/23. Along with him, Harbhajan Singh and Vinay Kumar took two wickets each while Jagadeesha Suchith and Mitchell McClenaghan scalped a wicket each. Eventually, MI went on to defeat CSK in the final as well to lift their second IPL title in 2015.
