Earlier in the year 2012 and 2014, Kolkata Knight Riders became champions, but could not qualify in the playoffs in the next season.

Earlier in the history of IPL, Mumbai Indians have a bad record. Mumbai’s team has also not been able to qualify in the next season playoffs after becoming champions three times. Mumbai became champions in 2015, 2017 and 2020 and could not go beyond the next season playoffs.
