Bangladesh fast bowler, Mustafizur Rahman has been given the green light to join Delhi Capitals (DC) for a short period in IPL 2025. He will be available to play from May 18 to May 24, after receiving an official approval from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Mustafizur Rahman granted NOC by the BCB

This short-term inclusion comes as a timely boost for the Capitals, who are currently battling for a place in the playoffs.

Rahman’s availability had earlier been under doubt due to international commitments and pending approval of a No Objection Certificate (NOC). After discussions between the franchise and BCB, he has now been allowed to participate for this specific period. The decision reflects a growing flexibility around player schedules as the IPL continues to be a major fixture in the global cricket calendar.

Known for his deceptive cutters and control at the death, Mustafizur could play a key role in Delhi’s bowling attack during this crucial stage of the tournament.

With the team in a must-win scenario, his inclusion brings much-needed depth and experience. In a significant stint in the cash-rich league, Mustafizur has taken 61 wickets in 57 matches with an economy of around 8. The left-arm pacer had previous stint with multiple franchises including Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI).

Mitchell Starc and Jake Fraser-McGurk pulled out earlier from DC

Earlier, in a major blow to Capitals’ playoff hopes, both Mitchell Starc and Jake Fraser-McGurk have officially confirmed they will not be rejoining the squad for the remainder of IPL 2025.

Starc, who was a marquee signing for Delhi this season, has left due to international duties with Australia, while Fraser-McGurk has withdrawn citing personal reasons. Their absence is a significant setback, especially with the tournament entering its most critical phase.

Meanwhile, DC’s playoff chances are not looking too promising. After a strong start, their campaign has gone off track with just one win in their last five matches.

With games remaining against three in-form teams — Gujarat Titans (GT), MI, and Punjab Kings (PBKS)— they’ll need a top effort to stay in the hunt for playoffs.
