Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer made a bizarre statement on Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The Bengaluru-based franchise are last in the points table in the Indian Premier League 2024, with 7 seven defeats and 1 win. KKR defeated Bengaluru by 1 run in their latest match at the Eden Gardens.

Shreyas Iyer’s team scored 222/6 in 20 overs, with the captain scoring a fifty. RCB bowlers were again hammered to all parts of the ground. Virat Kohli started aggressively in pursuit of 223, but he was dismissed on Harshit Rana’s high full toss. Faf du Plessis followed soon, leaving the team under pressure.

Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar slammed the fifties, and the chase was on track. Iyer gave the ball to Andre Russell, who got rid of the two batters. Despite the fall of regular wickets, the visitors remained in the game. Karn Sharma hit three sixes in the last over of the innings but Starc took a stunning catch of his own bowling to avoid KKR’s defeat. With Lockie Ferguson getting run out on the sixth delivery, the hosts registered a 1-run victory.

Venkatesh, who had an off day against RCB, heaped massive praise on the rivals. “RCB are the most dangerous side, with a good bowling attack,” he said. However, he soon realized he made a wrong statement and started laughing.

RCB cannot qualify for the playoffs after losing against the two-time champions. The season has been marred with inconsistent performances, with batters and bowlers failing to play as a team.

Virat is the only positive for the franchise, having scored more than 350 runs. He is the current holder of the Orange Cap.
