The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the prize money for WTC winners, which will be USD 3.6 million, which is more than double that of the winners of the past two cycles.

Meanwhile, the runners-up will receive a reward of USD 2.1 million, while the prize for the same in the previous editions was USD 800,000.

The winners of the last two WTC cycles, New Zealand and Australia, had earned USD 1.6 million each.

“The increase in prize money exhibits the ICC’s efforts to prioritize Test cricket as it looks to build on the momentum of the first three cycles of the nine-team competition,” the ICC said in its release.

India who finished third on the table will receive over USD 1.4 million, while fourth placed New Zealand get USD 1.2 million. Even the prize money for teams finishing fifth (USD 960000) and sixth (USD 840000) England and Sri Lanka will receive prize money more than the runnersup in the previous editions.

Pakistan who is in the bottom of the WTC 2023-25 points table, will receive only a prize money of 33% of India’s prize money. They have finished in the ninth place with a PCT of only 27.98 even below Bangladesh and West Indies and their prize money is the least among all teams INR 4.11 crore.

India and Pakistan have not faced each other not only in the WTC but also in the Test format since the 2007-08 season. Moreover, after the recent war-like situation between them, there is no chance of bilateral series happening between the neighbouring countries.

South Africa topped the table in the 2023-25 edition with eight wins from 12 games and were the first team to seal a final spot with a dramatic win against Pakistan.

Meanwhile Australia reached finals after defeating India 3-1 in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Both teams have named their squads for the final. Australia and South Africa will set to play in the final starting on June 11 at Lord’s.
