Virat Kohli's contribution to Indian cricket is much more than just establishing the team as one of the best in the world. Kohli brought a change in the Indian team's attitude, not just on the field, but off the field as well.
He introduced the fitness culture to Team India and made it one of the top criteria for selection.Former India strength and conditioning coach Shanker Basu lauded Virat Kohli for his discipline and said that he was the first cricketer to train like an Olympic athlete. Basu said Kohli led by example and took his fitness seriously. He credited Kohli for making fitness a priority for Indian cricketers."He is the first cricketer who decided to train like an Olympic athlete. He didn't want to train with oft-repeated methods, he wanted to do something different. He is a very good student. He will have a lot of questions initially, and once he was convinced he will go in that direction. The sign of a good leader is that first he will turn into a role model, which Virat did with aplomb," Basu told The Times of India (TOI)."From there, one by one, the entire team started embracing that culture. The Indian team was an embodiment of fitness over a period. I remember a time when one of the foreign coaches came and asked one of our team members what our team was doing? Virat and the whole bunch are moving like athletes and their agility is unbelievable. But I would say all the credit goes to Virat," Basu added.Kohli recently announced his retirement from Test cricket. He ended his career with 9230 runs in 123 Test matches, including 30 centuries.
