The new schedule for the last 13 league games and Playoffs for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, from May 17 to June 3, was announced on Monday.

The updated fixtures, however, clash with two bilateral series. West Indies faces Ireland in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) from May 23 before playing another three against England from May 29 to June 3.

This could prompt several overseas players to not rejoin their respective franchises when the IPL resumes on May 17. Jos Buttler, for instance, was named in England’s ODI squad to face the West Indies.

Similarly, England’s Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell, and West Indies’ Romario Shephard and Sherfane Rutherford are also part of the squads for the bilateral series.

Can IPL teams sign replacements for players who leave on international duty?

Teams are allowed to replace players who are ruled out due to injury or unavailable because of national duty until their 12th league match.

As things stand, Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals have all played 12 league games.

However, only the players from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) — who went unsold at the auction — can be signed. Further, once a replacement is named, the original player can not join the squad till the end of the season.
