Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed all the five mentors appointed for the first edition of the Champions One-Day Cup from their positions. These mentors include former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis, Misbah ul Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shoaib Malik and Sakalan Mushtaq. All these former players were associated with five different teams in domestic cricket.
According to sources, the performance of these mentors was reviewed in an important meeting chaired by PCB Chairman Mosin Naqvi. In this meeting, board officials said that these mentors have not yet had the expected effect, while they were being given a salary of 50 lakh Pakistani rupees every month.
The PCB plan was to spend time with these former players and guide the emerging players, while they were also given freedom of media and other assignments. However, the board realized that the investment made on mentors is not giving proper benefits.
Sources also revealed that the authorities expressed dissatisfaction over Shoaib Malik’s attitude, as they preferred the captaincy of the Sialkot team and playing in the National T20 Championship instead of playing the role of a mentor.
Now everyone’s eyes are on which PCB takes new steps to make their domestic cricket structure more effective in the coming time.
